Twitter Tussle: Could Indictments Against Ex-Girardi Keese Lawyers Be Soon?

by John Hensley

A Chicago judge halted a civil suit against former partners of Tom Girardi’s law firm amid a criminal investigation that one lawyer in the case says could result in indictments soon.

At a brief Monday hearing, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly granted a motion from one of the defendants to stay the case and seal documents related to that request. Jay Edelson, of Edelson PC, who filed the suit, immediately posted on Twitter why David Lira, a former partner at Girardi Keese, filed the stay motion: In a Jan. 5 telephone call, a lawyer for another defendant and former Girardi Keese partner, Keith Griffin, told him Lira was about to be indicted.
