Data Platform: Meta Can’t Withhold Users’ Publicly Posted Information

by John Hensley

While a number of class action suits filed in recent months have alleged Meta and other social media companies need to tighten up their data privacy practices, a case brought in Delaware makes a claim from the opposite side of the matter: Meta can’t limit who accesses public information.

Bright Data, represented by Wilks Law and Proskauer Rose, has asked a judge to confirm the web data platform isn’t legally barred from accessing public information through Facebook or Instagram, isn’t responsible for making sure its customers don’t do the same, and under promissory estoppel can’t have its access to public information cut off by Meta.
